Pahrump man faces numerous charges
A local man is behind bars, charged with numerous crimes, including battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a weapon where a person might be endangered.
Gregory Earl Uribe, 59, was taken into custody last week by Nye County sheriff’s deputies.
The charges stem from a July 2 incident, when Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services crews and deputies responded to a residence on the 700 block of Alaska Way just after 5:30 p.m., for a 37-year-old woman with a traumatic head wound.
The sheriff’s office issued a news release stating local detectives immediately conducted an investigation related to the circumstances surrounding the woman’s injuries.
It is unclear what relation Uribe is to the victim.
“After the woman had been taken to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas, it became apparent that she suffered a gunshot wound,” the release stated. “Although she was in critical condition, she made a partial recovery. The circumstances remained under investigation by Nye County Sheriff’s detectives and nobody was taken into custody at the time of the initial call.”
During the subsequent investigation, detectives conducted numerous interviews, served a search warrant and requested a forensic analysis of the evidence related to the case, according to the release.
“The investigation ultimately revealed that the victim’s injuries were the result of a gunshot which had been fired by her live-in boyfriend, Gregory Earl Uribe,” the release noted. “Uribe was present at the scene at the time of the incident but denied any involvement. Due to the nature of the trauma the victim had suffered, she was unable to disclose any information about the incident to detectives at that time.”
On Tuesday, October 10, the release stated that Uribe was interviewed again, at which time he admitted that he had lied during the initial investigation and confessed to shooting the victim after they argued at their residence.
“He further indicated that he had used methamphetamine prior to the incident,” according to the release. “Uribe is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm as a result of prior convictions.”
Uribe was ultimately placed under arrest and booked into the Nye County Detention Center.
Additional charges include possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and making a false statement to obstruct a public officer.
Uribe is currently being held on a bail amount of $100,000 pending a formal arraignment in Pahrump Justice Court.
