The Sanders show will go on, Movie in the Park has been changed to ‘Lego’

Jack Sanders said “the show must go on,” even though the performance of Lynn Peterson &The Phatt Kattz has been changed. Kelly Almond, a key member of her band is ill and Peterson will be performing with the Woody Woods Band.

The show will feature music from the 1920’s through the 70’s and up to present-day hits.

“An Adventure in Time” will begin at dusk in the winery courtyard, located at 3780 E. Kellogg Road. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for wine tastings and attendees are welcome to bring a picnic or snacks. Wine and other beverages will be for sale. The show begins at dusk.

Tickets are $15 each and reservations are advised for groups wanting a table. Call 727-1776 for more information.

“The Lego Movie” will be on the big screen for the Movie in the Park, Saturday.

The original selection was “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, but it was replaced with something more kid-friendly.

The movie will be staged at Ian Deutch Memorial Park and begins at dusk. The event is alcohol, drug and tobacco free. Bring blankets or chairs. Concessions will be available.

Cameron Lynch is chairman of the Pahrump Youth Advisory Board under the auspices of the town. The group is trying to raise money to fund activities for the area’s youth, especially during the summer.

She said, “Any amount of money donation from $5 up is welcome from individuals and local businesses. All you need to do is write a check out to the Town of Pahrump and in the memo write ‘youth advisory board.’” She said “Carla” at the town office will handle the funds.

The group has a major “Teen Carnival” set for 5 p.m., July 25 at the Bob Ruud Center. The event will feature limited free pizza from Stuff’d Deli, games with prizes and other concessions for sale.

The event is suited to 13 to 18 year olds. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $5 in cash or five non-perishable canned items. The food will be donated to charity.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will hold a career and volunteer fair from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Aug. 8 at NyE Communities Coalition campus.

RSVP will be there, looking for drivers, who will be paid 40 cents per mile to transport seniors to doctor appointments and other errands. There is a $30-per-month cap. Drivers may go into Las Vegas as well as Pahrump and must pass a background check.

Jan Lindsay, RSVP representative, said she is also looking for a few independent contractors for the Homemaker Program. Applicants must pass a background check and the position pays $9.60 per hour.

This is geared to low-income or disabled clients.
