Mike Hickey is solo and Tail’s End adoption at the HUBB

Mike Hickey normally only hosts the Sunday jam session at the HUBB with Dean West and Wild Bill, but tonight he will be performing solo with songs from Jimmy Buffet, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Merle Haggard and George Strait.

Along with his full-time job as a Realtor, Hickey has been playing music for 40 years and calls himself a “weekend warrior.”

“I’ve played in bars, mostly, and have probably played in 20 or 30 bands over the years,” he said. “I have played country, rock, blues and acoustic mellow stuff.”

Hickey is from Yuma, Ariz., originally, and lived in Phoenix and Pinetop before moving to Pahrump.

He said, “After all of these years I still love to play. Have guitar — will travel, but not too far.”

On Saturday, Aug. 9, the HUBB, at 3720 W. Bell Vista is sponsoring an adoption day from 8 a.m. to noon, for the dogs and cats at Tail’s End Animal Shelter.

For those seeking a “forever friend,” this is the perfect opportunity to find that special family member. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers and live entertainment featuring “Cowboy.” There will be over 20 potential pets to meet and hopefully adopt.

Tail’s End is a not for profit Animal Shelter under contract to Nye County. Call Susan at 775-910-3237 or Tonya at 775-910-1890 for more information about the event.

PV Wings N Things, 1301 S. Loop Road, will hold a fundraiser for the Nye County School District Homeless Activity Fund by donating 10 percent of all food sales from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Aug. 20, to help feed the homeless students.

The Pahrump Arts Council Shadow Mountain Quilters are in charge of this year’s arts and crafts portion of the annual Pahrump Fall Festival. The organization is currently calling for entries in artworks , including photos, beadwork, ceramics, jewelry, scrapbooking and much more.
