Dealership wants to help ‘Get Back on Your Feet’

Local business owner Tom Saitta said the event was so nice, he wants to do it twice.

Saitta was referring to his Saitta Trudeau car dealership’s program where one local family or individual will get the use of a new Dodge Dart for one year to start off 2015, free of charge.

The process is simple for the “Get Back on your Feet” program.

A friend or family member writes to one of three valley businesses detailing why they feel a particular family or individual would benefit from the use of the car. A selection committee comprised of two local media outlets and the dealership then reviews the letters to reach a consensus of the most deserving entry.

“We are encouraging people to write letters suggesting someone who deserves a get back on your feet opportunity to drive a Dodge Dart free of charge for a year,” Saitta said. “We buy them a free tank of fuel once a month so they have to bring it to us once a month for maintenance, cleaning and inspection. We’ll even pay the down payment on the car’s insurance.”

Additionally, Saitta said the program is more of a hand up, rather than a handout.

“That’s the whole idea,” he said. “It’s for a deserving person or family that needs an opportunity to get back on their feet without feeling like it’s charity.”

Last year, the “Get Back On Your Feet” car giveaway, provided local resident Connie Robbins with the keys to a new car. At the time, Robbins said she could not believe she was selected out of a field of more than 200 letters.

“I never thought I would be the one to win it,” said Robbins after being selected last year. “I just never thought I would get selected and I really love the color. My daughter said she wanted a red one but I got to choose the color blue.”

Both Saitta and Don Trudeau were also beaming with excitement after handing the keys of a brand new Dodge Dart over to Robbins last December.

“There are a lot of people in need out there and many are just one paycheck away from losing their home or car,” Trudeau said. “Obviously we can’t help them all, but we wanted to look at a way that could at least help someone and transportation is a big thing in people’s lives.”

Trudeau noted another important aspect of the selection process focused on which candidate would most likely find themselves in a better position financially, one year later.

“We are looking for somebody who will truly benefit from this program, not someone who will find themselves in the same situation after the year is up,” Trudeau said. “We want someone where this will really make a difference in their life,” he said.

All three locations are now accepting letters through Dec. 20.

Official rules are located at the dealership of Saitta Trudeau Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge.
