Thank you for Bonkers for Bunco success

Soroptimist International Pahrump Valley would like to thank all of the wonderful bunco players who joined us Friday evening Feb. 27 for our Bonkers for Bunco fundraising event. The turnout was impressive, we had to add four more tables putting the number of participants at 48, one of the biggest turnouts so far.

A special thank you to Donna Terrelli and ProCare Hospice for sponsoring enough cupcakes for everyone in attendance as well as one of the pick-a-prize raffle prizes. Because of the larger than expected turnout the cupcakes really made a difference. Another special thank you goes out to Sierra McKillups, the Nye Communities Coalition representative who helped set up and clean up, staying late so that we could hold our event in this wonderful facility.

Thank you to the Co-Chairs, Cecelia Thomas and Liz Frazer, who really put together a fantastic event and thank you to all of the Soroptimists who came out, provided the snacks and volunteered, President Jean Johnson, President-Elect Dawn Coursen, Treasurer Laurayne Murray who emceed and called the game, Claudette Crooks and her grandson Justin and Dina Williamson-Erdag. Thanks to all of the Soroptimists who donated prizes for the Silent Auction, pick a prize and Bunco prizes. We could not have done this without the support of the entire club.

Does Pahrump need a mandatory animal ordinance?

This town has an animal overpopulation problem. Unwanted animals are being born and struggling to survive. Most are being killed by cars, coyotes or the shelter. Pahrump should have a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance to bring this under control.

The duties of the Advisory Board are the development of rules, regulations and ordinances for the care and control of all animals in this county.

I have tried to implement mandatory spay and neuter on two separate occasions and have been rejected both times. I believe I’m being rejected for the members’ own personal issues. Some of the statements I have heard are “my dogs are my personal property and no one or thing is going to tell me what to do with my personal property.”

Plus, some members do not like all animals and some have animals not spayed or neutered.

The members of the board are there for the community, not for their personal issues. It’s always the bad that spoils it for the good, but in this case unwanted animals are dying through no fault of their own.

I would like help in getting mandatory spay and neuter accepted as an animal ordinance. I will still take animals to Vegas to be spayed and neutered until something is done to reduce the population and stop the killing.
