Texan arrested on felony warrant in Tonopah

A Texas man was arrested in Tonopah over the weekend on several charges including attempting to escape police after it was discovered he was wanted on a felony warrant out of his home state.

Jeremy Puebla, 39, was pulled over Saturday after Nye County Sheriff’s deputies observed his Infiniti G35 was traveling over the posted speed limit.

Upon conducting a driver’s license and warrants check on Puebla, police discovered he was wanted on a felony warrant out of San Antonio, Texas for assault with a deadly weapon. When a sheriff’s deputy directed Puebla out of the vehicle he took off on foot, attempting to elude capture.

After a foot chase that lasted around two blocks, police were able to catch up to Puebla while he was attempting to climb over a six-foot fence, the gate opened causing him to fall.

Police were able to get one cuff around one of Puebla’s arms before he became combative and resisted arrest.

After a three-minute struggle, police were able to get Puebla into custody, and was taken to the Tonopah Detention Center where it was discovered he suffered a laceration on his right arm when he fell of the fence. Puebla was taken to Nye Regional Medical Center where he received seven stitches to his injured arm.

“It was then determined that Puebla had some injuries due to the fall from the fence,” police said in a statement. “Puebla was transported to Nye Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a laceration to his right arm, receiving 7 stitches. Puebla was then returned to the detention facility where he was booked on local charges and the outstanding warrant without incident.”

Puebla was booked into the Nye County Detention Center charged with basic speed, resist/obstruct an officer, and attempt to elude, in addition to his outstanding warrant.
