Top 10 frugal Father’s Day gifts Dad will love

As June 21 is drawing near; that’s the day where we send up a big thank you to Dear Old Dad, it’s Father’s Day!

If you have more love than money; don’t despair! With no money in your wallet you’ll need a trick up your sleeve so here are some gift ideas that show you don’t have to spend a fortune to give Dad a gift he’ll love.

Tickets - Give Dad sports tickets, movie tickets, show tickets or tickets to a special event, expo or an amusement park. Make tickets on the computer for your own special events like a ticket to your home theater for a movie night complete with popcorn.

Calendar Dad – make a customized calendar for Dad’s desk. Gather 12 family photos, each representing a month of the year and make a family desk calendar. Walgreen’s and Walmart have these starting at around $10.

King of the Grill Gift Bucket– Is Dad king of the barbecue? Get him some new barbecue implements, some good barbecue sauce and makings for s’mores. Add some steak and you have a party!

A Good Cup o’ Joe - Get some really good coffee beans so Dad can enjoy a gourmet cup of caffeine in the morning.

A Watch - A new watch doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, check out vintage stores and pawn shops for great deals. Or get new batteries and watch band for Dad’s current watch.

A Wallet – Is Dad’s wallet looking a bit tired? Just be sure you know what kind of wallet he likes. Guys usually have preferences about wallets. Be sure you put a family picture inside.

A magazine from the week he was born - Look on eBay for vintage Look, Life, Time or Newsweek magazines. It’s interesting to look back and see how much things change and the advertisements are a blast.

A magazine subscription - There are so many niche publications you can find a magazine perfectly suited to Dad’s hobbies or interests. Whether he’s in to fitness, fishing or frogs there’s a magazine just for him. Do an internet search for his favorite pastime and the word “magazine.”

Painted T-Shirt – Paint a t-shirt with fabric paints. The paints can be found in craft stores and Wal-Mart. Use a plain shirt and paint in big letters “Best Dad Hands Down” then have the kids put their handprints on the shirt and sign their names.

Food - You can’t go wrong making dad’s favorite meal. Make pizzas at home or bust out the BBQ. Top it off with Dad’s favorite cookies.

The important thing to remember is it really is the thought that counts! Dad knows budgets are tight and he’ll appreciate a creative gift he can really enjoy rather than an expensive gift, especially if you shouldn’t afford it.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Divas On A Dime.
