Social Security representatives assist with residents’ needs

On the last Tuesday of every month the Bob Ruud Community Center welcomes two representatives from the United States Social Security Administration to accommodate the citizens of Pahrump with any Social Security needs they may have.

According to Ronnie Singh, one of the two representatives that come to Pahrump monthly, 75 to 80 people of all ages come to the community center to get help with initial Social Security cards, replacement cards, questions regarding retirement, disability and Medicare.

The representatives can also help direct those who are looking to start a claim.

The only thing the representatives cannot help with is with the entire claim because there is not enough time, however they will guide to somewhere that will.

Pahrump resident Michael Cull said during the June 30 session that he did not know what documents to bring when he first came to the center, which later caused him a lot of trouble.

Singh said if people need to get a Social Security card, they need to bring two forms of identification, birth certificate and social security number to file for a replacement. It usually takes 7-to-10 business days.

Cull also mentioned that the service he received was good overall, a few kinks but it is worth it because driving to Las Vegas is inconvenient.

The representatives that come to Pahrump are from the Las Vegas office, 1250 S. Buffalo Drive. Those office hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Wednesday which are 9 a.m. to noon.

The next date the representatives will be in Pahrump is Tuesday. Registration is 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Bob Ruud Community Center is at 150 N. Highway 160. Singh also said everyone must sign in by 11 a.m.

If you have any other questions you can contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213.
