Above average temperatures expected for weekend

With one of the biggest events of the year taking place this weekend with the Fall Festival going on through Sunday evening, tons of residents and tourists alike will be outside enjoying the fun.

Those who are outdoors will need to take precautions, as higher than usual temperatures will be hanging around for the weekend.

Temperatures are forecast to be near triple-digits for the entire weekend, with today reaching 101 degrees, and Saturday and Sunday maxing out at 99 degrees.

"Looks like this weekend is going to be warm and sunny," Justin Pullin said. "Highs this weekend will be anywhere between eight-to-10 degrees above normal."

Pullin explained that the higher than normal temperatures are attributed to a high pressure system that will dominate the area through the weekend.

There will be slight breezes today and Saturday as winds between 10 and 15 mph are expected.

The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of water, limiting use of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages; wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing; and wearing a shirt, hat and sunscreen at all times.

Heat is the No.1 weather-related killer in the United States. Dehydration, hyperthermia and heat cramps could impact those who overexert themselves, or are careless during the peak hours of the day.
