Firehouse Fling to benefit Inyo County volunteer firefighters
TECOPA, CALIFORNIA - Usually, fashion shows are vain productions featuring the latest clothing trend, but one taking place this weekend is all for a good cause.
The Southern Inyo Fire Protection District, a small volunteer fire and EMS service in Tecopa, will host its annual fundraiser, dubbed the Firehouse Fling, to help fund the organization's efforts.
Featuring the firefighters in their full garb, along with a price tag to display how much the equipment costs, attendees can get an up-close look at the uniforms and an understanding of how expensive they are.
The volunteer emergency service serves a 1,200-square-mile area that includes Shoshone, Death Valley Junction and Charleston View, and is funded by a local parcel tax that doesn't cover everything the volunteer service needs, so they can use any help available to keep their services up and running.
More than just a display of uniforms, the event will feature entertainment, shopping and refreshments as well.
A dancing troupe out of Las Vegas will provide entertainment at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort by twirling their flames as the volunteer firefighters stand by.
The Fireman's Bazaar will include barbecue items, hot dogs, a silent auction of handmade items and art. There is also a raffle to win a handmade quilt, prizes from local businesses and an adventure getaway.
In addition, there is an all-day flea market with various items up for sale and 2015 Southern Inyo Fire Protection District T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
The firefighters will also put on a demonstration of wildland firefighting techniques and will provide tips for for natural disaster emergencies.
Two recently received donations helped the department purchase two used ambulances and those two vehicles will be on display for all to see.
All supporters from Pahrump, Amargosa Valley and the Owens Valley are encouraged to make the trip to Tecopa to enjoy family fun at the Firehouse Fling. If you can't make it you can still help by purchasing raffle tickets for the handmade quilt by calling the firehouse at 760-852-4130 or visiting their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Southern-Inyo-Fire-Protection-District-10082580....
