Scorching, near record temperatures on deck for valley
After a mild week of summer weather, the valley is set for a heat-up, as temperatures will near record heat come the beginning of the week.
The National Weather Service will issue an excessive heat warning beginning Sunday at 10 a.m. and will run until 10 p.m. Wednesday night, as temperatures are expected to exceed 110 degrees during that time.
“A high pressure system will be sitting right over the four corners, which is very typical for this time of year,” said Nathan Foster, National Weather Service meteorologist. “Temperatures will be 10 to 12 degrees above average.”
Although no records are expected to be broken during the heat wave, during the last day of the excessive heat warning we could get close in town.
The record high temperature for June 22 is 112 degrees and the weather service forecast has Pahrump reaching 111 degrees on Wednesday.
Over the next week high temperatures will vary between 94 degrees today, topping out at 112 on Tuesday.
Low temperatures will be between 68 degrees and 79 degrees over the next several days.
