Frazier Furniture closing its doors

After more than 21 years doing business in Pahrump, Ron and his wife Marion Frazier have decided to close the doors of their Frazier Furniture business on Calvada Boulevard. Both will enjoy some leisure time before hitting the road to travel the U.S.

Ron Frazier this week said he and his wife had been considering the move for about a year.

“We sold the building and we actually took an option over a year ago,” he said. “We decided to exercise it this year back in March or April. Words can’t express how we feel about closing our doors, but we thought long and hard about it and we kept coming up with the same conclusion. It’s time to retire and do a little traveling around the country, something we have not been able to do for many years.”

The Fraziers made certain to say they will remain in the community by virtue of the many friends and associates they’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the years.

Frazier is a board member and treasurer of Pahrump’s No To Abuse agency.

He is also the chief organizer of Pahrump’s annual Silver State Chili Cook-off and a competitor in the cook-off.

“We have met some incredible people along the way and we owe a lot of gratitude to those who have supported us over those 21 years,” he said. “We still plan on staying in the community. If Karen Jackson of KNYE radio thinks she’s going to get out of my competition at the annual chili cook-off, she is mistaken.”

Frazier’s two-plus decades of running a furniture business in the community has had its ups and downs.

He spoke about how his business managed to stay afloat during the country’s deep recession beginning in 2008.

Frazier also hinted at what he and his wife have planned in the not-too-distant future.

“Every one of us has a book inside, but we just need to get it out and I intend to try to write a book,” he said. “As far as making it through the economic downturn a few years back, that’s why we started the Pahrump Life Magazine, which was to increase our market share and it has worked successfully for us. That is what kept us going and we’re also going to continue with Pahrump Life Magazine.”

Frazier summarized his business career as a “great journey.”

“We’ve enjoyed every minute of it and we met some really nice folks here in the community,” he said. “It’s been a real pleasure to work with the other businesses and the community at large.”

As far as imparting sage advice to would-be business owners in the community, Frazier urged individuals to do their homework.

“I would tell them to research and find something that is needed within the community,” he said. “It makes it much easier. It’s always important to have a business plan in place and make sure you have a marketing strategy.”

At present, Frazier said many area residents are taking advantage of his “retirement sale,” before the doors close for good come early September, when the new owners of the site take possession of the property.

“The people next door, ACC Industries, purchased it and they are the ones that have the grow facility,” he said. “We are looking to close it all down by probably the first week in September. We have to be out of the building by the 10th of September. We want to take this opportunity to give a big thanks to our employees, the customers who have purchased from us, the manufacturing representatives who have helped us along the way, the factories for their support, and those of you who will purchase from us before we close our doors forever.”

Frazier Furniture is located at 1241 East Calvada Blvd.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
