Tuesday: wind advisory in effect; gusts up to 50 mph possible

Tuesday will be a gusty one in the Pahrump Valley, as a wind advisory is in effect today from 11 p.m. until 11 a.m.

Sustained winds will blow out of the southwest at 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph possible.

The high temperature will peak at 83 degrees with the low dipping down to 56 degrees overnight.

The National Weather Service cautions that gusty winds can create areas of blowing dust and can displace loose objects or unsecured temporary structures.

Be cautious while driving, as strong cross winds can create potentially dangerous conditions for high-profile vehicles. Drivers of such vehicles are warned to use extra caution behind the wheel.

Replace the Calvada fountain? Why the water board thinks we should

Nye County District Attorney Brian Kunzi recently made a suggestion that caught the attention of the Nye County Water District Governing Board. He proposed the county consider replacing one of the most notable landmarks in the Pahrump Valley: the fountain at Calvada Boulevard and Highway 160. The fountain has been at the prominent intersection for decades. Many find beauty and meaning in the site, with the fountain symbolizing the Paiute origins of the word Pahrump — Water Rock.
