Breezy weekend will lead into mild work week, wind gusts possible today
The weekend will get off to a gusty start for the Pahrump Valley as a weather system will move through the area kicking up winds.
Today will see a high near 85 degrees, with sustained winds between 14 mph and 20 mph, with higher gusts possible, according to the National Weather Service. The overnight low will dip to 61 degrees tonight, with the wind blowing around 18 mph.
“It’s going to be breezy starting Friday and lasting through the weekend,” said Chris Outler, National Weather Service meteorologist. “We’ll probably be seeing winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.”
With the heightened winds, a wind advisory is possible Outler said, and a fire weather watch is in place.
“The dry conditions mixed with the breezy weather we’re expecting creates heightened fire risks,” he said.
Saturday will see sustained winds around 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, with a high temperature of 83 degrees.
Besides the wind, temperatures will remain at or just below normal, with no precipitation chances.
“It looks sunny, but there might be periods of clouds mixed in, high clouds, but otherwise dry,” said Outler.
The work week will start off with a high temperature of 80 degrees Monday and Tuesday, with lows 54 degrees and 53 degrees respectively.
The week rounds out with highs in the low to mid-80s with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
