Shadow Mountain Community Players performing dinner theater next two weekends
Some dastardly deeds are happening at New Hope Fellowship Church this month as Pahrump’s Shadow Mountain Community Players present Agatha Christie’s production of “Appointment with Death.”
The dinner theater murder mystery runs throughout this month at the church, located at 781 West Street just off Highway 372.
Actor Carlton McCaslin said the story is a classic whodunit.
He portrays a French doctor named Girard.
“It could have been murder or accidental, or it even could have been old age as the old lady is in her 80’s,” he said. “She has developed so much hate among her relatives because she used to be a prison warden and she plays games with her kids’ minds to try to keep them totally under her control.”
McCaslin noted that the play is set in the King Solomon Hotel in Jerusalem, where a motley group of tourists is checked in.
“The title comes from an old Syrian folktale about a man who runs into death in Damascus, Syria,” he said. “He eventually leaves Damascus and ends up in Baghdad. This was during a time when Agatha Christie did not like sleuth Hercule Poirot, so she took him out of the play but he is in the book. She used to have arguments with this character she created.”
The production kicked off on Friday, Feb. 3, where it’s scheduled to run on Feb. 10, 11, 17 and 18.
Dinner is included involved in the play as well.
“It’s $18 per person and we are serving spaghetti and meatballs, along with a green salad and garlic bread. For dessert we will be serving an apple parfait,” McCaslin said.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner while the show starts at 6:30 p.m
Tickets are available at Pahrump Community Library and the door on the evening of the event.

McCaslin also noted that the troupe’s next reading is scheduled next month for an old-fashioned melodrama.
“We are always looking for actors and we want people who really want to have a good time with it,” he said. “We have been doing this for 13 years.”
