Beatty Airport to receive federal funds

The U.S. Department of Transportation will award over $4.6 million in federal grants to airports in rural Nevada, including in Nye County.

Under the grant, Beatty Airport will receive $217,016 for the construction of a taxiway turnaround for runway 34.

“The county would not be able to provide upgrades needed to the public airport without the federal grants. The funding reflects the FAA’s understanding of the importance of the airport in the U.S. 95 corridor between northern and southern Nevada,” said Arnold Knightly, Nye County spokesman.

U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev. said in a statement that the funds will provide “much-needed” improvement that Nevada’s rural airports need to operate “safely and securely.”

“Our airports ensure that Nevada communities are connected and that our cities are accessible for both commerce and tourism. I am pleased the Department of Transportation has allocated the necessary resources to repair worn-down runways and upgrade outdated aviation equipment,” Cortez Masto said in a statement.

Eureka, Lincoln, Elko, Lander, Mineral and Douglas counties will also receive funding for their airports under the grant.

Boulder City Municipal Airport is the receiver of the largest grant, $1.4 million, that will pay for a seal coat overlay of the taxiway, construction of the existing ramp and the replacement of an automatic weather observing system.
