Obamacare may not so bad after all

Republican predictions that the Affordable care Act (Obamacare) would be a disaster have turned out to be baseless as the law is helping millions of Americans get health insurance.

The Republicans are beating a dead horse as the ACA is turning out to be a very positive experience with 8 million people already signed up and millions more waiting in the wings to come on board as they see the low rates and realize they can’t be denied coverage because of existing health conditions.

The Affordable Care Act is here to stay. And besides, what is the GOP’s alternative for the Affordable Care Act? All we’ve heard from Tea Party Republicans for years have been lies and unrelenting smear tactics against the ACA. I’m sure most Americans would take health care in the hand over “do-nothing” Republican talk and promises.

The Affordable Care Act is working and working well and the Obama administration expects millions more to sign up in the next enrollment period starting Nov. 15.

Pahrump streets being used as racetracks

It never ceases to amaze those of us who live on South Blagg, Mt. Charleston Drive and Pahrump Valley Boulevard how few times we see our local sheriffs, with the exception when they use these same streets at high rates of speed and lights flashing to traverse from north to south to get to some emergency. On numerous occasions over the past few years I have personally called the Nye County dispatcher to ask for assistance on the high-speed travelers on these roads only to be blown off as not having enough officers on duty or some other excuses.

I was visiting some friends on Mt. Charleston Drive when school was let out at about 2 p.m. and witnessed high rates of speed past their homes. Mentioning that something should be done, I was told that it happens three times a day, when the students go to school, at lunch, and again after school is let out. That isn’t bad enough, but the school buses that passed were well above the speed limit as well. It seems that the school buses, UPS and the students have a free pass to drive as fast as they want. When school is not in session or on weekends the parents, adults and the contractors with trailers and equipment take over and drive just like the school crowd.

The motorcycles and four-wheelers who cross private property and alongside of these same streets are violating the law every day and there seems to be no enforcement of the laws that exist. The patrol cars and the unmarked sheriffs’ cars are seen all over the place; schools, stores, and the excuse for burning the gas we citizens pay for is “they drive them home for quick response in the case of an emergency and can quickly be at the problem.” How many other jobs of the working population are provided a car and gas to supplement their income?

WE NEED TO PUT A STOP TO THE EXCUSES AND THEY NEED TO DO THE JOB THEY ARE ELECTED AND HIRED TO DO!!!!!
