A busy weekend for Memorial Day celebrations

This being the Memorial Day weekend, local businesses have gone all-out to provide entertainment for everyone.

First up is the annual beach bash type event at Lakeside RV Casino &Resort on Homestead Road. Golden Gaming Group is providing a barbecue outside, games and contests for the kids with prizes to be awarded and the Drew Baker Band will play in the amphitheater beginning at 5 p.m.

Bring chairs or a blanket and sunscreen. Admission is free and the event will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 24.

THE HUBB Bar and Saloon will host the 26th annual “Pig Out” for the International Order of Old Bastards MC all day Saturday, May 24. It will be a whole pig barbecue and food service begins at noon.

Saturday, at 8 p.m., the “Hillbilly Bandits,” from Reno, will perform. There will be a wet-T-shirt contest, biker games and raffles.

The High Desert Shorts International Film Festival will hold its after-party at THE HUBB as well. Founder Linda Kass said the event is primarily for the fimmakers, “but anyone is welcome.” The event begins after the HDSIFF awards ceremony Sunday afternoon.

Mike Hickey and Dean West will be hosting a jam session as well.

Kass said, “There will be plenty of food and the owners have agreed to stay open until the party is over.”

The Pahrump Community Pool also opens this weekend with free swimming Saturday, Sunday and Monday courtesy of the Valley Cruisers. Hours are from noon to 7 p.m.

The Pahrump Valley Cruisers will also hold its 19th Annual Show and Shine car show May 24, at Petrack Park. The show features raffles, live music, crafts, and food and drink vendors.

The Johnny Cash Tribute Show is also this weekend at Sanders Family Winery. There are shows both Friday and Saturday nights and tickets are $15. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at dusk. It’s a good idea to reserve your table early. Call 727-1776 to make reservations. As always, wine tasting is free and attendees are invited to bring a picnic and snacks. Wine and other beverages will be available.

Paul DiLella, the Pahrump Valley High School drama instructor will bring his students to the stage in the high school auditorium for “School’s Out for Improv.” The event is set for 7 p.m., May 24 and tickets are $4 at the door.
