The Cold War Patriots are set to visit Pahrump where they plan to honor former uranium workers of the nuclear weapons and uranium industries with an exhibit titled “Remembrance Quilt Experience.”
The exhibit that’s showcased only at a few select locations across the country will host a limited engagement in Pahrump set for Aug. 3-16 in the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Ave.
Cold War Patriots is the nation’s first association that connects former nuclear weapons and uranium workers with benefits. It has more than 40,000 members.
The centerpiece of the exhibit experience is a quilt fashioned in the shape of an American flag. The quilt features over 258 fabric squares hand-printed with the name of former workers, their years of service and the facility where they worked.
An interactive kiosk presenting a behind-the-scenes look at the atomic weapons program in the U.S., profiles of the men and women who worked in the industrial process behind the nuclear weapons program will also be included in the exhibit.
Cold War Patriots Chairperson Tim Lerew said in a news release that the Remembrance Quilt Experience pays a tribute to the men and women who were on the front lines of one of the chapters of U.S. history.
“The exhibit honors these brave men and women who did their part to keep America free, and it’s not available anywhere else,” Lerew said. “The quilt is a symbol that preserves the legacy of these dedicated individuals who worked in secrecy – and often in harm’s way – to ensure the safety of our nation by building our nuclear arsenal.”
The exhibit will travel across the country throughout the year with the next stop at the Fernald Preserve Visitors Center in Hamilton, Ohio. Earlier this year, the exhibit was in Denver, Moab, Utah and Paducah, Kentucky.
Also, Cold War Patriots has been temporarily displayed at select locations across the country since 2011, including the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Department of Labor.

A private reception for former Nevada Test Site workers and their families is planned for 10 a.m., Aug. 3 in the Pahrump Senior Center.
The reception is to feature a special presentation about the exhibit and provide refreshments.
