Jet skis make big splash in Pahrump

Everything was golden last Saturday at Lakeside Casino and RV Park, as Jet ski racing returned to Lakeside after an 8 year hiatus. Golden Gaming, owners of the Lakeside Casino and RV Park, was pleased with the crowds they got from the races.

"It was a success," Kathy Tillet marketing rep for Golden Gaming said. "We are talking with the promoter and it might come back again next year."

In addition to the racing in the lake, there were also vendors and musical entertainment.

Promoter Greg Matta brought Jet Ski racing back to the 7-acre lake at Lakeside Casino last Saturday. He had 40 racers strutting their stuff on the small lake.

"I wish we had more racers, because I lost money. I needed to have 70 to break even," Matta said. "But it was still a success. People came out and watched us race. I invented small course racing. Many people didn't think it could be done."

Matta said he proved everyone wrong who said that Lakeside was just too small for racing back in 2007. He said next year he will be back.

"I told the Nugget I would do at least three races," he said.
