Pahrump offers various and varied activities for seniors

There's no shortage of things to do for Pahrump's senior population to enjoy each week, as several local organizations, agencies and businesses offer a range of activities for seniors.

Inspirations Senior Living's more popular activities is Happy Hour each Friday at 3:30 p.m., where the community can enjoy performances from local talent.

The facility also offers church services where local pastors alternate for Sunday services.

The ever-popular Silver Tappers Dance Troupe also perform when they have down time from their busy schedule.

Seniors who reside at Inspirations have their own exclusive perks.

The facility offers rides to do shopping errands on Tuesdays and Thursdays and even a trip to a favorite casino.

Rides for doctor appointments are offered every day.

Inspirations has scheduled a fundraising rummage sale on Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Alzheimer's Association. Donations are welcome.

Inspirations Senior Living is located at 931 Honeysuckle Road.

The Pahrump Senior Center provides various activities Monday through Friday.

The center is a popular spot for seniors to meet and mingle for lunch. Seniors can take advantage of card games or crafts and beading.

For the more active set, the senior center offers exercise and dance classes, bus excursions and health seminars on a regular basis.

Later this month, the senior center will have its popular Monster Mash Dance on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The senior center is located at 1370 W. Basin Ave.

Many local seniors want to venture out when the sun goes down and there are an assortment of local activities to consider.

The Pahrump Nugget offers live music and comedy this month.

On Friday Oct.16, Dave Williamson takes the stage at Bonkerz Comedy Club, located inside the Nugget Events Center, while comedian Carmen Vallone performs his special brand of comedy Friday, Oct. 30. Both shows begin at 7 p.m.

October is also the month to take advantage of bingo specials inside the Nugget Bingo Room, with special end-of-the-month drawings.

Bingo sessions vary.

The resort also has special golfing and wine tasting packages for two or dinner at Stockman's Steakhouse.

For activities outside of a casino setting, Mountain Falls Grill Room offers a relaxed atmosphere with a lakeside setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Mountain Falls is also home to year-round golfing with competitive rates.

Special golf packages and group outings are available.

Beatty burros are burdening town — officials aim to remove some members of massive herd

The Bullfrog Herd Management Area, which includes Beatty, is grossly overpopulated with wild burros. According to previously stated management goals, the population of the animals should be kept to around 80 burros, but it has far exceeded that number for years. The last time a gather was carried out, there were more than 800 burros, and the BLM removed more than 400, which was the capacity of the agency’s holding facilities.
