The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of Sept. 22 – Sept. 26:

2 percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday — open-faced turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes, peas, apple crisp;

Tuesday — cabbage rolls, Normandy blend veggies, cake;

Wednesday — pulled pork sandwiches, potato wedges, green beans, pudding;

Thursday — eggplant parmesan, pasta, Normandy veggies, bread pudding;

Friday — garlic chicken with noodles, cheesy broccoli, fruit cup.


Monday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; beading class, 12:30 p.m.; haircuts, 9 a.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; Elder Abuse seminar, 9:30 a.m.;

Wednesday — Senior Dimensions, 9:30; blind support, 12:30 p.m.; flu shot clinic, 9 a.m. to noon;

Thursday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; “Enriching the Present/Recalling the Past” seminar, 9:30 a.m.;

Friday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.

Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of Sept. 22 – Sept. 26:

2 percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — baked liver and onions, mexicorn, tomatoes viniagrette, mashed potatoes with gravy, dinner roll, sliced peaches;

Tuesday — honey dijon chicken fries, steamed squash, macaroni salad, gelatin with fruit;

Wednesday — tuna pita melt with pesto/sun-dried tomatoes/red peppers/mozzarella, California blend veggies;

Thursday — spaghetti with meat sauce, steamed broccoli and carrots, garlic bread;

Friday — French toast, country fries, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, coffee, orange juice, tea.

Bus service for those interested: Monday, pick up between 3 and 4 p.m., Mecca Road between Route 373 and Miner Road. Drop off after dinner at 5 p.m.

Friday, pick up between 8 and 9 a.m. Farm Road between School Lane and Tamarack Road. Drop off after breakfast at 10 a.m.

IN SEASON: November bulbs bring April flowers

Years ago, when I lived in Alaska, I was driving to work one morning at the end of a frigid winter. The thaw had given way to greenery and by mid-May the sun had fully returned after a winter of darkness. As I passed a stand of pine trees, I suddenly noticed to my left a field brimming in green and purple.

Pahrump Valley Tournament Bowling Club offers fun with dash of competition

Bill Neilson stepped up to the foul line on Lane 16 of the Pahrump Nugget Bowling Center. He’s one of dozens of bowlers who turned out Sunday for the monthly Pahrump Valley Tournament Bowling Club tournament.
