Pahrump Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of: Feb. 1 – Feb. 5. Two percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday — BBQ chicken, potato salad, corn, bread, orange/banana, soup;

Tuesday — hot pastrami sandwich, coleslaw, cake, soup;

Wednesday — kielbasa, potatoes, sauerkraut, applesauce, soup;

Thursday — spinach Alfredo, glazed carrots, yogurt, soup;

Friday – meatloaf, mashed potatoes, spinach, salad w/tomato, whole wheat bread, fruit cup, soup.



Monday — haircuts, 9 a.m.; exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.; beading class, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.;

Wednesday — Crafty Ladies, 12:30 p.m.;

Thursday — exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; haircuts, 1 – 3 p.m.;

Friday — exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; Nathan Adelson Hospice Seminar “Palliative Care,” 10 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.


Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of Feb. 1 – Feb. 5

Two percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — baked chicken tenders, French baked potatoes, steamed spinach, ambrosia, pudding;

Tuesday — beef stir fry, steamed white rice, beet salad, whole wheat roll, fruit cocktail w/juice;

Wednesday — pork chops w/apple rings, red pepper couscous, zucchini, carrot raisin salad, whole wheat roll;

Thursday — lemon baked fish, brown rice, squash, three bean salad, whole wheat roll, fruit cocktail;

Friday — Spanish omelet, bacon, hash browns, peaches, yogurt.


Beatty Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of Feb. 1 – Feb. 5

Two percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Beatty Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Monday — biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, banana, orange juice;

Tuesday — taco casserole, Spanish rice, seasoned zucchini, pumpkin bread, pineapple, punch

Wednesday — herb baked chicken, baked potato, fat free sour cream, chives, herbed veggie medley, whole wheat bread, apple;

Thursday — supreme pizza, beets, melon, pudding;

Friday — fish and chips, coleslaw, corn on the cob, peaches, cookie.

Pahrump Valley crowns state rodeo champions

Another year, another state champion for the Pahrump Valley High School Rodeo Club. This time it was Garrett Jepson, who captured the team roping title at the state high school finals that began June 11 in Alamo.

Every year in my garden, I strive to plant more and more edible perennials. The ability to plant once and have an increased harvest year after year makes perennials worth their weight in gold to me. Spending less time on maintenance allows for more time to devote to other chores on my little farm. The goji berry bush is one of my favorites in this class.

Multiple fireworks shows to light up Nye County communities

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing so much disruption to daily life and the public gatherings that bring everyone together, residents all across Nye County will undoubtedly be delighted to learn that the annual fireworks shows across the county have not been canceled and will go ahead as planned this Independence Day.

Nevada Humanities moves exhibitions series online

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, “Colors of the West: Youth Art from the 2020 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering,” opened online June 4 at nevadahumanities.org and will be on display as a virtual gallery indefinitely.
