Pahrump Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of: May 4 – May 8. Two percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday — lasagna, garlic bread, spinach, pudding, soup;

Tuesday — chicken cordon bleu, parsley potatoes, carrots, fruit cup, soup;

Wednesday — pulled pork sandwich, squash, ice cream, soup;

Thursday — herb baked chicken, baked beans, corn, yogurt, soup;

Friday – BBQ, chili, pasta salad, cupcakes.


Monday — haircuts, 9 a.m.; exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — Farmer’s Market, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; exercise class, 10:30 a.m., bridge, 12:30 p.m.;

Wednesday — Crafty Ladies, 12:30 p.m.;

Thursday — Creekside Hospice Seminar, 10 a.m.; exercise class, 10:30 a.m.;

Friday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m., bridge, 12:30 p.m.

Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of May 4 – May 8

Two percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, Brussels sprouts, layered salad, peaches;

Tuesday — chicken enchiladas, refried beans, Spanish rice, colorful salad, baked cinnamon custard;

Wednesday —Italian beef bake, peas and carrots, spinach salad, frozen vanilla yogurt;

Thursday — lemon and herb chicken, zucchini, scalloped potatoes, salad, applesauce, gingerbread;

Friday — ham and cheese omelet, hash browns, whole wheat toast and jam, oatmeal, mixed fruit.

Hundreds remember Dusty Park at Pahrump Valley Speedway

It was billed as a Celebration of Life for Dusty Park, and much of the afternoon felt like a celebration. There was laughter and sharing stories among the several hundred people who gathered Sunday at Pahrump Valley Speedway to remember him.

I’ve noticed that one of the most requested items at the Farmers Market is beets. It mystifies me because I am not a fan of the flavor. Beets are fun to grow though, and very versatile. They are also easy to grow and have a quick turn-around from seed to harvest.

Dan Dunn and Mike Dedeic had to work overtime but came away with the victory in a horseshoes tournament Saturday hosted by the Clyde E. Newman Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10054 in Pahrump.

Fall brings not only cooler temperatures but a new growing season, and maybe even the easiest time to grow a garden in our year-round growing climate.
