Pahrump Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of Aug. 25 – Aug. 29

2 percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday — meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, fruit cup;

Tuesday — chicken cordon bleu, parsley potatoes, peas and carrots;

Wednesday — tuna stuffed tomato, pasta salad, cake;

Thursday — shepherd’s pie, spinach, ice cream;

Friday — herb baked chicken, rice pilaf, carrots, cake.

Activities

Monday — haircuts, 9 a.m.; exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.;

Wednesday — shopping day, 9:30 a.m.; Senior Dimensions, 9:30 a.m.; crafty ladies, 12:30 p.m.; blind support, 12:30 p.m.;

Thursday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; hospice seminar, 9:30 a.m.;

Friday — exercise class, 10:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.

Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of Aug. 25 – Aug. 29:

2 percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — pineapple pork chop, baked garlic sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, dinner roll, sherbet;

Tuesday — hot turkey sandwich, peas and carrots, tomatoes vinaigrette, oatmeal raisin cookies;

Wednesday — cheese enchilada, Spanish rice, refried beans, black olives, tapioca;

Thursday — pepper steak, fresh corn and zucchini, asparagus saute, mixed berry cobbler;

Friday — waffles, sausage, hash browns, oatmeal, strawberries and blueberries, coffee, orange juice, tea.

Bus service for those interested: Monday, pick up between 3 and 4 p.m., Mecca Road between Route 373 and Miner Road. Drop off after dinner at 5 p.m.

Friday, pick up between 8 and 9 a.m. Farm Road between School Lane and Tamarack Road. Drop off after breakfast at 10 a.m.

Beatty burros are burdening town — officials aim to remove some members of massive herd

The Bullfrog Herd Management Area, which includes Beatty, is grossly overpopulated with wild burros. According to previously stated management goals, the population of the animals should be kept to around 80 burros, but it has far exceeded that number for years. The last time a gather was carried out, there were more than 800 burros, and the BLM removed more than 400, which was the capacity of the agency’s holding facilities.
