The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of July 24 – July 28. Two percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday – Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, spinach, salad w/tomato, whole wheat bread, fruit, soup;

Tuesday — Chicken salad sandwich, cucumbers in sour cream, tropical fruit, black bean soup;

Wednesday – Low-sodium kielbasa, parsley potatoes, sauerkraut, carrots, applesauce, soup;

Thursday — Orange chicken, rice, broccoli, fruit, soup;

Friday – Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, salad, fruit, soup.

ACTIVITIES

Monday — Exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; 100th Birthday Party for Geneva Dulaney, 10 a.m.; beading class, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — Exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; Bunco, 12:30 p.m.; haircuts, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.;

Wednesday —Crafty Ladies, 12:30 p.m.; Blind Support, 12:30 p.m.;

Thursday — Men’s breakfast, 8 a.m.; exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; Rippits (crocheting/knitting) 10 a.m.; haircuts, 1 p.m. -3 p.m.;

Friday — T.O.P.S. meeting, 7 a.m.; exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.

Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of July 24 – July 28:

One percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — Turkey fajitas, Spanish rice, ranch-style beans, chopped spinach, French dressing, pears;

Tuesday — Baked meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, whole wheat roll, fresh melon;

Wednesday — Honey mustard chicken, steamed rice, Brussel sprouts, three-bean salad, fresh apple;

Thursday — Chili cheese baked potato, steamed carrots, whole wheat banana muffin w/butter, fat-free blueberry yogurt, orange juice;

Friday — Scrambled eggs w/sautéed peppers and onions, hash browns, oatmeal, fresh berries.

Beatty Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of July 24 – July 28:

One percent milk available. Meals are served at the Beatty Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday — Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs w/sautéed veggies, peaches, oatmeal;

Wednesday – Sweet and sour chicken, steamed brown rice, peas and carrots, chopped spinach salad, whole wheat roll, oatmeal date bar;

Thursday — Baked meatloaf, mashed potatoes, steamed spinach, lettuce and tomato salad, whole wheat bread w/butter, Chantilly fruit cup.

Beatty burros are burdening town — officials aim to remove some members of massive herd

The Bullfrog Herd Management Area, which includes Beatty, is grossly overpopulated with wild burros. According to previously stated management goals, the population of the animals should be kept to around 80 burros, but it has far exceeded that number for years. The last time a gather was carried out, there were more than 800 burros, and the BLM removed more than 400, which was the capacity of the agency’s holding facilities.
