Tecopa gallery opens elaborate art show

The warmer weather is bringing outdoor adventuring to the list of available options for getting out and about. This weekend features a new art exhibit in Tecopa, a fundraising craft fair for No to Abuse and the HOPE walk/run is on tap at Mountain Falls.

The art show in the Tecopa Basin Artists Gallery located at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort, will feature the process for block printing and some of the pieces which originated at a recent workshop held at the Goldwell Open Air Museum outside of Beatty.

March 1 and 2, Goldwell Open Air Museum and Red Barn printer Suzanne Hackett-Morgan led a workshop for Tecopa artists Nancy Good, Mary Burke King and Amy Noel.

Mary Hill, another artist and Goldwell Open Air Museum board member, also joined the group to share her printing expertise.

In a press release, Tecopa Hot Springs Resort owner Amy Noel said, “We created linoleum, woodcut and dry point on copper prints with wonderful equipment in an inspiring space.” She said the workshop gave the group an opportunity to explore outside comfort zones and usual mediums. Good is a photographer and sculptor, Noel is a photographer and Burke is a painter.

Noel said part of the process was setting up and organizing the print shop with equipment which came from a former facility in Las Vegas.

Noel stated, “We prepared blocks for printing on Saturday, shared journals, books, sketches and ideas and had a chance to interact and have dinner with David Ohlerking, Goldwell’s very talented plein air painter and artist in residence.”

She said Ohlerking will have a show at Goldwell’s Red Barn on Saturday, May 22.

“We camped out at the print studio and made our prints on Sunday morning, cleaned up and got home in time for the Oscars if we had a TV.

“It’s fun to realize again our desert neighborhood is so big and welcoming. … I think we are a good example for peace. We get together, marvel at the amazing world we live in, we look at problems, we clean up, we organize, we create something beautiful and we share.”

The art show opens tomorrow and the artists’ reception is set from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the TBAG gallery. The show will run through May 31.

The HOPE walk/run is also Saturday and proceeds will benefit the wellness programs sponsored by NyE Communities Coalition.

The race takes place at Mountain Falls with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Entry fees are $25 for the one-mile; and $35 for the 5K and 10K.

NyECC spokesperson Tane Owens said the race will begin at the clubhouse. Everyone who participates will also get a goodie bag and a HOPE T-shirt. A breakfast for the runners, compliments of Mountain Falls, will be served in the Grill Room after the race, which begins at 8 a.m.

The Maverick will host a St. Patrick’s Day craft fair and auction from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a live auction of donated items which will benefit No to Abuse. Booth space is 10 x 10 and crafters may reserve a spot by calling Nadine at 513-1244.

Beatty burros are burdening town — officials aim to remove some members of massive herd

The Bullfrog Herd Management Area, which includes Beatty, is grossly overpopulated with wild burros. According to previously stated management goals, the population of the animals should be kept to around 80 burros, but it has far exceeded that number for years. The last time a gather was carried out, there were more than 800 burros, and the BLM removed more than 400, which was the capacity of the agency’s holding facilities.
