Last year at this time, the Central Nevada VFW Riders included four riders and were beginning to recruit motorcycle riders. Their search is ongoing.
The original group included coordinator Paull Engs, his wife Janet, John Sheets and Lee Foglesong. Within a year, the group has grown to 14 members. John Sheets has been temporarily sidelined with health issues, but he still rides when possible.
Some of the events coming up are a pot pie dinner April 29 at VFW Post 10054, 4651 Homestead Road. Cost is $10 per plate, served between 5 and 7 p.m., and all are welcome.
On June 8, the Central Nevada Riders group will meet up with the Northern Nevada Riders group in Beatty and ride into Las Vegas as a united group for the Nevada State VFW Riders Convention on June 9.
On Sept. 11, the VFW will play a supporting role with Cindy and George, owners of the GI USA shop in Pahrump. There will be a 9-11 observance, going for a Guinness record for the number of glow sticks. Cindy and George are hoping for over 3,000 so community support is really needed.
The VFW Riders are always looking for new members. As a group of experienced motorcycle enthusiasts, they always have two things in mind, ride safe and have fun.
You don’t have to be a member of the VFW to ride with them so if you are looking for a group to ride with, check them out. Not a veteran? Join the Auxiliary or be a supporter to join the VFW Riders, and remember everyone is welcome to attend their rides. They ride most weekends throughout Central Nevada and beyond.
