Almost 500 residents lose power after suspected drunk driver crashes into power pole

Almost 500 people temporarily lost power Saturday morning after a crash involving a suspected impaired driver who crashed into a power pole in the central part of town.

Valley Electric Association, Inc. said that 497 members near the intersection of Dandelion Street and Mount Charleston Drive where the crash took place, were left without power for a portion of the morning, as crews worked to restore the power outage, which occurred at 10:25 a.m. By 11.59 a.m., all but six of the affected members’ power was restored. The remaining members’ power was down for four-and-a-half hours.

The driver was cited for DUI by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and arrested. No further details were available at press time.
