Anytime Fitness changes owners, expands

One sign of improvement to the local economy is change and one business has joined the ranks of those moving into the future and attracting new and more technology savvy customers. Anytime Fitness, located at 70 S. Highway 160, Suite 105, is on the move with a new owner, new classes, a virtual trainer and more space.

New owner Greg Kudrna took possession of the business Oct. 1. The Pahrump location is number five for Kudrna who owns other Anytime Fitness operations in Gardenerville, Yerington, Fernley and Fallon. He said he plans to open another location in Winnemucca next year.

Kudrna has arranged to add 1,000 square feet of space to the gym, which will take over some of the retail floor of the former Goodwill location in the shopping center. Goodwill relocated to Loop Road, in the old Floyd’s Ace Hardware building earlier this year.

He said, “It’s going to be a group fitness room where we can hold classes.” Construction will begin as soon as the permits are pulled. The blueprints for the new space are due to arrive today.

One introduction to the space will be a “fitness on request” kiosk. Kudrna said people will be able to choose from 65 different workouts and when the program is selected, a screen will drop down from the ceiling. When the software program starts to run, members will meet their virtual trainer who will walk them through the moves for the training exercises.

“It’s a great addition to what we have there. People can choose the type of workout they want and what suits them best and do it on their schedule instead of having to worry about when classes are offered.”

A familiar local resident will be the face of instructor and management for the facility. Chandini Breathwaite is in training under the watchful eye of area director Shelby Hill. Breathwaite will take over management on completion of her training. She will also be teaching classes. Breathwaite is already well-known as a dance class instructor for a local studio and is involved with the community through a number of organizations.

For those who would rather have access to classes, Anytime Fitness will provide selected workouts by Dec. 1, according to Kudrna. The gym will offer what is termed “hot” yoga, where the room temperature is elevated to 80 degrees before the class begins.

There will also be regular yoga classes and Zumba, a form of Latin dance moves, will provide a cardiovascular workout.

Spin classes will also be offered. Kudrna said the classes involve stationary bikes equipped with simple-to-use adjustments for tension. “The spin class is a series of tension changes on the pedals. It’s loose to warm you up. Tightening the tension controls makes the workout more strenuous and more beneficial.”

He said over the next two years plans are in place to replace all the equipment with machines made by Life Fitness and Hammer Strength and by August 2014, he plans a remodel for the existing gym space.

“The goal is to improve the facility, make it larger and update and upgrade the equipment.

The facility will remain open during construction.
