‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign is underway in Nevada

The Nevada Highway Patrol is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies to educate motorists on seat-belt usage through the “Click it or Ticket” campaign that runs through May 31.

Drivers and all passengers 6 years of age or older and weighing more than 60 pounds must wear a seat belt, the NHP said. Any child less than 6 years of age and who weighs less than 60 pounds must ride in a federally-approved child restraint system.

“Also, it is always safest for children under 13 years old to sit in the back seat, even short trips from home,” the NHP said in a statement.

Seat belt citations carry a $75 fine after court and administration fees. A citation for an unrestrained child is significantly higher, the NHP said.

This Click it or Ticket campaign is funded through the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.

AAA said that it projects that 39.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home this Memorial Day weekend. That is 1 million more travelers than last year, creating the highest Memorial Day travel volume since 2005.

Based on AAA travel bookings, Las Vegas ranks seventh among the top destinations for Memorial Day weekend. Las Vegas ranks behind Orlando, Rome, London, Dublin, Vancouver, in Canada and Seattle. Behind Las Vegas in bookings are New York, Paris and Honolulu.
