Commission names new chair, fills town board vacancies

The Nye County Commission re-organized its leadership by electing a new chairperson at its first meeting of 2015 held on Jan. 5.

District 1 Commissioner Lorinda Wichman replaced outgoing Chairman Dan Schinhofen on his motion, which passed unanimously. Wichman leaves her post as vice-chairperson to District 2 representative Frank Carbone.

Carbone will now chair the highway commissioners board, with Schinhofen as his second in command.

District 4 Commissioner Butch Borasky will chair the licensing and liquor board with District 3 Commissioner Donna Cox serving as vice-chair.

Janet Hatch was appointed to a fill a vacancy of an unexpired term on the Tonopah town board. Greg Schoen was appointed to fill a vacancy of an unexpired term for the Round Mountain town board. The appointments expire Jan. 2017.

The board unanimously approved the application of Timothy and Jerry Herbst for a liquor and gaming license after receipt of a state gaming commission non-restricted gaming license for Terrible’s Casino located at 1750 Pahrump Valley Blvd. The board also unanimously approved the VFW Post 3677 application for a liquor license for premises located at 426 D. Ave in Gabbs.

The board approved the application for a final subdivision map for the Hidden Gem subdivision, in Tonopah, of approximately 8.44 acres into 19 individual parcels.

The board approved the proposal to seek pre-application grant approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for the replacement of an airport beacon and tower in Beatty and for the reconstruction of the 15-33 runway in Tonopah.

The board recognized Beatty volunteer ambulance station 31 emergency medical technician Mark Henderson for 35 years of service; Patricia K. Galvin for 20 years of service and Toni M. Ware for 10 years of service.

The next meeting of the Nye County board of commissioners will be held on Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. at the county commission chambers located at 2100 E. Walt Williams Dr., Ste. 100 in Pahrump.
