County commissioners to discuss BLM land plan Monday

Nye County Commissioners have scheduled a special meeting at 3 p.m. Monday to discuss the revised U.S. Bureau of Land Management revised resource management plan. The meeting will be in the commission’s chambers in Pahrump, 2100 E. Walt Williams Drive.

The plan is a guide for the use of 3 million acres of public land in the Las Vegas and Pahrump BLM Field Offices for the next 20 years. The county commission will discuss the comments they will submit to the BLM and the public will have a chance to comment.

The BLM scheduled a meeting on the plan at the Bob Ruud Community Center on Nov. 13, but then canceled it while they search for a larger venue. A couple hundred protesters showed up anyway to criticize the plan, which calls for the creation of 20 new Areas of Critical Environmental Concern.

The BLM hasn’t announced a new date for the public hearing, which will be an open house format with a court stenographer to take comments for the record.
