County to ask AG for Marshall’s prosecution

TONOPAH — Nye County Commissioners will vote on requesting assistance from the Nevada Attorney General in the prosecution of Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall and volunteer Ben Gulley when they meet at 10 a.m. here Tuesday.

The meeting can be viewed by video conference from commissioners’ chambers at 2100 Walt Williams Dr. in Pahrump.

Marshall and Gulley are accused of stealing campaign signs. The district attorney claims there would be a conflict of interest with his office handling the prosecution.

In other business, commissioners will consider the 2014 Pahrump chip seal program and phase three of a project to build ramps on sidewalks in Tonopah. The Nevada Department of Transportation will present their 2015 Nye County work plan.

The fiscal year 2014-15 budget will be up for discussion in a 1:30 p.m. timed item.

An amended ordinance allowing First Solar to increase the capacity of the proposed Sunshine Valley Solar Power Plant in Amargosa Valley from 65 megawatts to 110 megawatts is up for approval. Also, a bill amending the development agreement with SolarReserve for the Crescent Dunes project near Tonopah is up for approval.

Commissioners will consider a letter opposing the Nevada Sagebrush Landscape Conservation and Economic Development Act sponsored by U.S. Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev. and Dean Heller, R-Nev.

Commissioners will consider a letter from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management regarding the overpopulation of feral horses in Nye County.

Appointments are due to fill one vacancy each on the Amargosa Valley Town Board and Tonopah Town Board.

Commissioners have been asked to issue a letter of support for a tire recycling facility planned by Nevada Rubber Nuggets.

Revisions are considered on use of the Nye County commissioners’ chambers in Pahrump.

E Clampus Vitus has asked to place a plaque at the Belmont Courthouse commemorating 150 years of Nevada statehood.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture will make a presentation on noxious weed control in the area at 10 a.m. Commissioners will hear a presentation on the Nevada rural housing demand study at 10:30 a.m.

A public hearing will be held at 10:45 a.m. on a bill amending Nye County Code over registration fees and how they are distributed.

Commissioners will consider applying for a 2014 U.S. Department of Justice Bryne Justice Assistance Grant to pay overtime money for narcotics highway interdiction.

US 95 head-on crash kills one in Nye County

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash along US 95 at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday morning, May 13, according to Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services Chief Scott Lewis.
