County to open bids for assisted living center

Bids for the purchase of six acres of county land at 1683 E. Calvada Blvd., where a developer wants to build an assisted living facility, will be considered when Nye County Commissioners meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at commissioner’s chambers at 2100 Walt Williams Dr. on the Calvada Eye.

Commissioners passed a resolution of intent to sell the property last month, for a minimum bid of $229,950.The terms of the sale specify it must be used for an assisted living project. Sealed bids are due by 4 p.m. Monday.The property lies between the University of Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension Service and Advanced Medical Center.

In other business, commissioners will again take up a proposal by Commissioner Frank Carbone to create a Nye County Peace Officer Advisory Board.

The 2014 Pahrump Regional Planning District master plan update is up for approval.

Rene Morales, a managing member of American Eagle RV and Resorts LLC, has applied for a master plan amendment and zone change for a 55-acre parcel at 600 S. Leslie St., where he wants to build a 213-space recreational vehicle park. Morales has appealed the 5-2 rejection of his request for a conditional use permit by the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission last month.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo’s plan to spend his portion of the half-cent sales tax increase is up for discussion, the sheriff’s office gets half of the increase that took effect April 1.

His $991,719 plan calls for adding two detention deputies, two patrol deputies, two detention technicians and two field service agents, for an extra $452,902 in personnel costs. He requests another $398,260 in equipment, mostly for vehicles.

Commissioners will consider answering Utilities Inc. of Central Nevada plans for improving the Willow Creek ponds.

A contract for a Point and Pay system for a card reader that will allow credit and debit card payments at the Nye County assessor’s office is up for approval.

The filling of an open sergeant position at the Pahrump detention facility and a data collector position at the assessor’s office is up for approval.

Commissioners will discuss the equipment and services required to completely redesign the Nye County radio communications system.

A date will be set for a public hearing amending the Nye County Code adding a new chapter on off-highway vehicles, which includes regulations on their operation and designating paved county highways for off-highway vehicles.

US 95 head-on crash kills one in Nye County

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash along US 95 at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday morning, May 13, according to Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services Chief Scott Lewis.
