Emergency service calls involving motor vehicles dominated the majority of assignments for local first responders in the past week.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services Chief Scott Lewis said crews responded to a vehicle fire on the 1200 block of Loop Road on Wednesday, May 30, just before 12 p.m., where he noted that Mother Nature appeared to be the culprit.
“Crews arrived upon location and found a mostly extinguished bed of a pickup truck where the contents had been on fire,” Lewis said. “That fire was quickly extinguished with no incident and no further extension to the truck. It is thought to be accidental in nature, possibly by way of the storage of materials in the bed of the truck with the sunlight reflecting upon it.”
The following day, at approximately 12:08 p.m., fire crews were dispatched for a report of an injury motor vehicle accident, where one vehicle struck the rear of another.
“While there was no entrapment, two persons were assessed and both were transported to the local hospital,” Lewis said. “This was at the scene of another accident which had occurred approximately 30 minutes prior, involving an overturned travel trailer, which was thought to be attributed to windy conditions and vehicle control.”
Two people were transported to Desert View Hospital following an early morning two-vehicle collision on Saturday, June 2 at approximately 4:47 a.m.
That crash occurred in the area of Highway 160 and Irene Street.
“Upon arrival, crews found an offset head-on collision between two vehicles with an extended separation distance between the resting vehicles,” Lewis said. “One person was briefly mechanically entrapped. Crews assisted that driver in exiting the vehicle and the occupants of both vehicles were transported to the local hospital.”
Several hours later, emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Blosser Ranch Ranch Road and Linda Street, just before 10 a.m.
“Upon arrival to the location, crews found the two vehicles as reported with no entrapment, however, one vehicle was partially resting upon the other,” Lewis noted. “One patient was transported to the local hospital and all assignments were completed without incident.”
On the same day, crews were dispatched to another injury motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in the area of South Malibou Avenue at Alfalfa Street at 1 p.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found the motorcycle down, along with two occupants as reported,” Lewis said. “The passenger sustained lower extremity injuries and was transported to the local hospital.”
Also on Saturday, emergency crews responded to an injury motor vehicle crash at Basin Avenue and Leslie Street just before 6:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival crews found a two-vehicle T-bone type collision, with a medical entrapment,” Lewis said. “All of the passengers in the smaller car were extricated and taken to the local hospital. Later that evening, crews were dispatched to Highway 160 at Basin Avenue for a two-vehicle crash just before 9:30 p.m., where one vehicle had struck the other vehicle from behind. While there was no entrapment, one patient was transported to the local hospital.”
The following morning, crews were dispatched for a report of an unknown liquid spill along Highway 160 at Matthew Road just before 11 a.m.
“Upon their arrival, crews found a large five-gallon spill of what appeared to be a liquid grease type of material over an extended portion of Highway 160 in the northbound lanes,” Lewis said. “Crews cordoned off the area and used an absorbant and other materials to remove that material from the surface of the roadway.
“Crews from the Nevada Department of Transportation also assisted in the process. That assignment was completed without incident and the driver who had caused the spill did not remain on scene. The material appeared to be more of a grease-type material used for vehicles.”
