Woman steals scooter, jailed for DUI

Janet Woods was arrested on July 31 and faces preliminary charges of driving under the influence ’€“ first offense, open container, grand larceny and possession of a stolen vehicle after deputies responded to a report of a theft at the intersection of Highway 160 and Matthew Lane.

After the Auxiliary Unit advised deputies that the female driver was seen approaching Matthew Lane, deputies were able to locate and detain the suspected driver, identified as Woods.

As deputies approached Woods, they reportedly observed that she was sitting in the single seat of a motorized scooter on the sidewalk.

According to the arrest report, deputies noted that they could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her person as well as the odor of urine. Deputies observed that Woods was in possession of an unopened 12-pack of beer, an unopened 24-ounce can of beer and a clear water bottle with suspected beer inside it that was opened.

When questioned about where she got the scooter from, Woods reportedly stated that she took it from Walmart and was driving it home.

Deputies conducted standard field sobriety tests on Woods which she reportedly failed.

Woods was arrested, transported to the jail, booked and held on $11,347 bond.

A manager from Walmart took possession of the scooter.

Man jailed for domestic battery

Marcelo Morales, Jr. was jailed on August 2 and faces a preliminary charge of domestic battery after deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic battery at a residence on Ramona Lane.

Deputies met with the victim who reportedly stated that she and the suspect, identified as Morales, were in a physical altercation and Morales began to argue with the victim. According to the victim, when she attempted to leave, Morales allegedly reached into the car window, grabbed her around the throat and started choking her.

Deputies noted that the victim had red marks and broken blood vessels around her throat area consistent with her statement.

Morales was located, taken into custody, transported to the jail, booked and held on $5,000 bond.

US 95 head-on crash kills one in Nye County

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash along US 95 at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday morning, May 13, according to Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services Chief Scott Lewis.
