Cutting permits still available in Humboldt-Toiyabe NF

Four ranger districts on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest still have Christmas tree permits available for purchase, officials said in a press release.

Districts include Austin-Tonopah, Bridgeport, Ely and the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge ranger districts on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Carson Ranger District's permits are sold out and no more permits will be available at the location, the press release said.

The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses and institutions that want to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits are non-refundable and non-transferable and must be purchased in person, officials said.

Cost and the number of permits range depending on ranger district. Permits for the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District are $5 apiece and can be purchased from Nov. 9 through Dec. 24.

The Austin office is located at 100 Midas Canyon Road, Austin, 775-964-2671; the Tonopah office is located at 1400 S. Erie Main St., Tonopah, 775-482-6286.

For more detailed information on permit availability, cost, cutting dates and regulations, residents should contact their local forest service office.
