Deputy arrested after pointing gun at wife

A Nye County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy is facing several charges following a domestic dispute with his spouse on Saturday.

Andrew L. Denning of Pahrump was taken into custody after deputies say he pushed his wife with his shoulder during an argument they were having.

According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, Denning was attempting leave the residence with the couple’s 3-year-old child, when he allegedly retrieved a handgun from a locked gun safe, loaded the weapon and attempted to exit the home while holding the child, according to the police arrest report.

The detention deputy allegedly pointed the gun at his wife’s head to get her to move out of his way as he tried to leave the residence with the couple’s boy.

Denning admit to the acts during a recorded interview, according to police. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, gross child endangerment and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Denning, who was hired in December, was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He has yet to be formerly booked and was in the hospital under evaluation on Tuesday.

No court date has been set.
