Dollar Tree grand opening this morning

The valley’s newest retailer opens its doors for business this morning.

Dollar Tree along Highway 372 is looking to do brisk business within the community, as every item inside the store is no more than $1.

Store Manager Andy Stites said the store is stocked with a variety of items for local shoppers.

“We carry every item from party and housewares to food and toys,” he said. “We have a great seasonal selection and everything in our inventory is a dollar or less. We don’t charge more than a dollar for anything. We are a true dollar store.”

“We offer a great value and it doesn’t necessarily matter where you fall on the socioeconomic scale,” he said. “We do really well with stores in rural areas and different types of areas because everyone loves a bargain.”

Stites said at present, Dollar Tree is the world’s largest single-point retailer.

“We have over 5,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada,” he said. “In Las Vegas, we have about 30 stores. We are very happy to be in the Pahrump community and we’re here to take care of your needs.”

Stites said the Pahrump location is now fully staffed with 25 employees, all from the community.

“All of our hires are local residents,” he said. “I’m the only one that makes the commute from Las Vegas.”

The addition of the retailer equates to much needed employment in a county where the unemployment rate dropped from 10.2 percent in December 2013, to 9 percent in February.

Tomorrow’s grand opening is scheduled for 9 a.m., with several county officials on hand.

Dollar Tree is located at 1360 W. Highway 372, roughly a quarter mile from the intersection of highways 160 and 372.
