Early voting starts Saturday
Polling places in Nevada open on Saturday, allowing Silver State residents to cast their votes a few weeks ahead of the General Election.
In Nye County, early voting is held at Ian Deutch Justice Complex in Pahrump and the Nye County Clerk’s Office in Tonopah.
Nye County Clerk Sandra “Sam” Merlino said she is concerned about possible lines during the first day of the early voting.
“The voter registration and voter turnout is much higher during a presidential election. We have more military voting as well as more new residents registering and voting,” she said.
Another thing the voters should be aware of is a two-page ballot, Merlino said.
“When the voters press the print box on the screen it will print one page and then they will have to press continue to print the second page. This will slow the voting process down a bit,” she said.
Merlino also said her office processed 4,028 voter registration requests since Aug. 1, 2016.
The office also gets a lot of duplicate registrations and absentee ballot requests, she said.
“There is always an increase when a new president is going to be elected because all the political parties get involved,” Merlino said.
Nov. 1 is the last day to request an absentee ballot for the General Election on Nov. 8.
Early voting will take place from Oct. 22 through Nov. 4.

General Election is on Nov. 8.
