BEATTY — The long-anticipated arrival of a Family Dollar store in Beatty is finally looking much closer, as a crew has been busy demolishing the former Beatty General Store on U.S. Highway 95 across from the Beatty mural.
The property used to belong to the Lisle family, but was sold some time back to a development company and will be leased by Family Dollar.
John Lisle said that he was told that the steel building is scheduled to arrive April 11 and that construction should take around three months, which would have the store possibly opening sometime in July. Much depends on the availability of contractors to do the work.
At present, the main store in Beatty is the small market at the Space Station RV Park. Owner George Radomski recently consolidated his stock to that store after closing the Beatty Mercantile.
Lou’s Hardware is also closed indefinitely, following the death of the store’s owner, Lou Schirka.
Of course, residents can buy all the candy they could possibly want at Death Valley Nut and Candy, and the usual convenience store items are available at the Rebel gas station.
