Hong Kong tourist seeing America up close
Wouldn’t it be nice to drop what you are doing and just take off and spend a three or four months touring a foreign country?
Chung Lee, a 23-year-old from Hong Kong did just that. He quit his job with Sears in Hong Kong and set out for a grand adventure to bike across America.
Lee landed in Boston and started his 2,781-mile journey to Pahrump. Thursday was his 101st day on the road.
“I just wanted an adventure and so I came out to see America,” Lee said. “I ride about 100 miles a day and am headed up to San Francisco.”
What is unusual about this trip is Lee didn’t train much for it, and he is doing it solo. In fact, this was only his second bike trip ever.
“I was nervous at first but not really scared,” the solo cyclist said.
His first bike trip was short compared to this one. Lee spent a month biking through Tibet.
“In Hong Kong I didn’t ride much,” he said.
Lee said he was staying in a hotel that night but has only done this less than 10 times on his journey.
“I spend most of the time in my tent,” he said pointing to the small one-man tent strapped to his bike.
He said everything he needs is trapped to his bike, including food.
“I eat breakfast and dinner,” he said smiling.
After San Francisco he plans to head to San Diego and then visit Mexico, where he plans on ending his journey.
