IN PROFILE: James Myers

BUSINESS: Owner of My Handyman

AGE: 49

BACKGROUND: “I’ve built over 100 custom homes on both coasts, serviced over 600 mobile homes and in California built custom cabinets in the 1990’s.

I can do all types of plumbing, electrical work, painting, carpentry and renovations.”

FIRST JOB: “I worked in an Italian restaurant in New York washing dishes.”

YEARS IN BUSINESS: “I’ve lived in Pahrump twice, once for six years in the 90s, and I moved back in 2010.

Although I’ve not joined any charity organizations, I perform charity work for the less fortunate every day. I’d rather give something to someone face-to-face.

PERSONAL: “It seems like I work all the time, but when I’m not working, and given the right setup, I love to play guitar. I used to build and repair them and wouldn’t mind sitting in with other musicians.”

BUSINESS CLIMATE: “I think we can all improve the economy by shopping locally.

When other outside businesses see us supporting each other, it makes them want to open a business here, too.

I do have to say that I’ve never seen small businesses open and close so quickly as they do here.

It would help people keep their business here if there were more to do than go out to eat and gamble.”
