IN PROFILE: Lisa Payne

BUSINESS: Something Special

AGE: 48

BACKGROUND: “I grew up with flowers. It was the family business and we had a flower shop. I also trained with a European floral designer in Prescott, Ariz. for a year. I am a well-rounded general florist that has no problem with doing funerals and weddings.”

FIRST JOB: “My first job was working with my parents at 11 years old in the family flower shop.”

YEARS IN BUSINESS: “I have been working in the field for 37 years and have been in Pahrump for two years.”

PERSONAL: “I love spending time with my dog, who is my family. My dog follows me everywhere I go. My hobby is building violins. I am still learning this. I saw a movie with my dad called the ‘Red Violin’ and that inspired me to try it. It just hit me like nothing else.”

BUSINESS CLIMATE: “I feel the business climate for florists will keep on getting better as the town grows. I think the town will steadily get better and so will my business. I have been in business in Pahrump for two years and it has not been easy, but I think it will only get better. I think a small business is all about attitude.”
