Motorcyclist strikes SR160 guardrail, dies

A 24-year-old man from Las Vegas was killed Sunday evening following a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on State Route 160 in the area of Mountain Springs.

The driver, identified this week by the Clark County Coroner’s office as Roberto Reyes, was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle after it struck a guardrail on the right side of the highway, killing him.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson, a public information officer for the division, troopers were dispatched at approximately 5:44 p.m. Sunday evening for a report of an accident near mile marker 18 on the Clark County side of the highway.

He said Reyes, who was traveling northbound on State Route 160, was reportedly attempting to make a lane change from the left side to the right side of the highway when his motorcycle continued onto the right shoulder of the roadway. He subsequently struck a guardrail causing his motorcycle to overturn and Reyes to be thrown from the vehicle.

The driver was fatally injured in the impact and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers began an investigation into the incident upon their arrival and both the north and southbound lanes were closed around mile marker 18 as they continued to work.
