Pahrump community pool to open early this year

Just in time for those hot days, the Pahrump Community Pool will open its doors early this year.

The six-lane, 25-yard pool normally opens on Memorial Day weekend, but this year, pool manager Terryn Thomas said that the pool is opening early.

“We usually don’t have the staffing this early, but because school is out and most of our lifeguards come from the high school, we will have staff. Our recreation director, Matt Luis, made the decision to open it up.”

For those that are new to town, the pool is at Petrack Park at 150 N. Highway 160 near the horseshoe pits and fire department.

Thomas said the pool will have a soft opening this weekend and will be open on May 20-21 from noon-6 p.m.

“The soft opening gives us time to get ready for the season,” Thomas said. “It allows the lifeguards to see some patrons in the water before we open for the summer. Since we are only open for the summer season, this is a chance for the lifeguards and staff to get used to the summer routine.”

Then on Monday, the pool will open for regular hours, from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. for adult swim. Then there is a break from 11 a.m.-noon. The pool then opens back up for everyone from noon-6 p.m.

Thomas wants to remind everyone that registration for swimming lessons will begin on June 11 at noon.

“People who need lessons should be prepared to come early because there is limited space in the class,” Thomas said. “Registration is first-come, first-serve.”
