Pahrump resident dies in structure fire

A structure fire June 15 claimed the life of a Pahrump man.

Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue crews were summoned to the area of Barney and Maple streets just after 3 p.m.

Fire Chief Scott Lewis said while en route, crews determined the fire was actually located along the 1800 block of Windy Lane.

Lewis also noted there was no information at the time of dispatch or while en route to the fire that the structure was occupied.

“Upon arrival, crews found a well-involved travel trailer that had been converted to a fixed-use structure,” he said. “The risk assessment determined that they were unable to make entry into the structure due to the fire conditions. They immediately commenced a defensive exterior attack where crews made quick order of controlling the fire.”

Once the fire was under control, crews immediately began a primary search from the exterior of the structure.

“They located an occupant who obviously did not survive the fire in the center portion of the structure,” Lewis said. “The scene was immediately preserved for an investigation and a request was made for the deputy state fire marshal as well as a detective from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation was commenced on scene by those individuals as well as Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue resources.”

Lewis said once the initial investigation was completed, the deceased occupant was first transported to the mortuary and then on to the Clark County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

“He was an approximate 60-year-old male,” he said. “I don’t have confirmation of his identification just yet, but we have a pretty good idea of his identity by family. That investigation remains underway.”
