After Pahrump Town Board Chair Harley Kulkin renewed his vow to incorporate last month, board member Amy Riches decided to counter his proposal.
On Tuesday, Riches stepped away from the dais to speak as a private citizen on the issue of incorporation, which she is strongly opposed to.
During public comment, Riches said she wants to “perform the will of the people” by standing in the way of incorporation efforts by Kulkin.
“I believe in my heart of hearts that it is the will of the people to not be incorporated.” Riches said. “Therefore, I am asking the people that are against incorporation to send an email to my private email account at bill-amy@hotmail.com. If you don’t have access to a computer you can mail it to me at 1470 North Hays Street 89060,” she said.
Riches directed further comments toward Kulkin during her statements.
“I cannot stand idly by and in my mind Harley, watch you ruin my town. The reason I say my town is because you don’t live here, you live in Johnnie. I believe that incorporation would in fact, ruin our town. I believe it will raise taxes and raise hell and I don’t need either one,” she said.
Riches requested that those who contact her leave a name and phone number, which could be verified by the legislature and county commissioners.
The board member closed her remarks with a personal message to her colleague.
“Harley, if you want to dance, let’s dance,” she said to a smattering of applause.
