Rollover crash kills 2 women in central Nye County

Two motorists died when a vehicle they were traveling in near Tonopah rolled over while heading along Nevada Highway 376 in central Nye County near Tonopah, the state Highway Patrol reported.

The victims in the June 15 crash, ages 22 and 23, were from Portland, Oregon, the NHP said. Their names have not been released, pending notification of family.

The crash occurred about 7:10 a.m., the NHP said.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that a maroon 2006 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on (Highway) 376 when the driver lost control of the vehicle,” Trooper Dan Gordon said in a statement.

“The driver made attempts to regain control, but the vehicle went off the road and began to roll over,” Gordon said. “Neither of the occupants was wearing their seat belts, and both were ejected from the car.”

One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported via helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas where she later died from her injuries, the NHP said.

It was not immediately known who was driving the car.
